Film is all
about creating and thinking outside the box. No one ever got anywhere by
playing it safe or just by being ordinary. The bar was set high by legendary
filmmakers like, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Martin Scorsese, and
James Cameron. Now with the times changing there is a new age of directors that
are pushing the boundaries of filmmaking to a different level and are
doing things that we only thought really happened in movies.
Take a look at Christopher Nolan.
Before he was this huge superstar director he was just another young filmmaker
like you and me. The only difference between Christopher Nolan and other young
filmmakers is, that he wasn't afraid to think outside the box and be creative.
He's fame didn't come right away, but when it did come it didn't take long for
people to realize how special he was. He gained critical acclaim for his
movie " Memento" which was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at
the 74th Academy Awards. Nolan’s career really took off when he took on
the DC Comics Batman in “ Batman Begins”. Nolan took the movies into a whole
new world and actually brought the audience into the movie. He gave us the real
Batman and showed us who he really was by bringing us into his life. " For me, what that became was my desire to do something
we hadn't seen before, a superhero story told in a realistic fashion". That's exactly what happened. Nolan gave us something new and fresh and completely out of the box.
In saying all of this I'm not trying to
highlight one specific person or say that we as young filmmakers are useless.
All I'm saying is to not be afraid to go out and create. Everyday strives to
get better and perfect your craft as a artist and as filmmaker. Don't be afraid
to be different. If taking a picture or doing a thirty second video on your
phone is all you can do then do it. Look to go beyond
the boundaries of he norm and reach for the stars. I know that's what
everyone always says but those stars may not be out of reach.
