So I choose to talk about one of the biggest
Christmas movies coming out this year in my blog today. Well at least it was supposed
to be the biggest film of the Christmas season. The Great Gatsby, a famous book
written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and adapted originally to film by director Jack
Clayton starring Robert Redford, and is now being adapted by Moulin Rouge
director Baz Luhrmann. The film was set to hit theaters worldwide on Christmas
Day this year, but was pushed back to summer 2013!
There have been multiple rumors floating around
about why the movie was pushed back, but Warner Brothers has said, "The responses we've had to some of the early sneak
peeks have been phenomenal," said international distribution president
Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, "and we think The Great Gatsby will be
the perfect summer movie around the world." Fitzgerald’s book takes place in summer
and may be an overall better fit for the movie, rather than releasing it this Fall. So
it should do very well in the release next summer. There are also rumors
floating around that director Baz Luhrmann needs more time to fine tune the 3D
effects and add more superstar to the already huge star studded soundtrack.
The one big thing that some fans and critics
seem to be upset about the most is now that the film is set to be released next
summer, it won’t be eligible for next years Oscar’s. I’m not going to lie, I’m disappointed
and I know a lot of other people are also, but if it needs final touches or if
it will do better in the summer, that’s ok with me. This is one of my
favorite books and whatever the case may be, I know we all can’t wait for this
amazing movie to come out and a couple of months won’t hurt anyone.
